10) Idris Elba
Every time a contemporary take on a character is suggested the argument over gender or race swapping rears its head. Is it a gimmick being done for the wrong reasons? Should iconic characters ever be subjected to changed heritage? Does it reflect the progression of our society or is it a false gesture aimed to appear politically correct? It is these dividing questions that have been raised every time Idris Elba’s name has been linked to 007.
There is far more to the link than this debate however and the consistent connection to the role proves one thing. Many believe the Luther actor has the ability and charisma to succeed in the role and to suggest otherwise would be a disservice to his talents. At 43, this appears to be a now or never moment for the Hackney born actor but with David Oyelowo already portraying the first Black James Bond (albeit via audio) recently, there is no reason not to believe Elba is in with a strong shout of making on screen Bond history.
