(7) Jaws
Perhaps a controversial inclusion due to it’s status among Horror fans (The Exorcist, Halloween and many more would of made the cut if all were included in our list) Jaws makes the grade due to a second half that is pure Man vs Shark action. The slow build and sharp jump to frantic orchestral thrashing is a microcosm for a shark attack – capturing the fear and adrenaline of such events perfectly. If instilling a desired emotion in your audience is the measuring stick for a great score, then Jaws must be considered one of the best.
